SECTION 1. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES
The Chessie System Historical Society is a nonprofit Corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio. It exists for the following:
- To promote and encourage study of the history of the Chessie System Railroads, which included the Baltimore & Ohio, Chesapeake & Ohio, and Western Maryland, as they existed in the period from 1972 to 1986.
- To publish a quarterly newsletter relating to the Chessie System Railroads through various printed media and to insure the widest possible distribution of such information to the corporation’s membership.
- To collect, index, restore, preserve, maintain and display artifacts, photographic and archival material relating to the Chessie System Railroads at such locations as may be feasible to the members and the general public.
- To restore and preserve any available diesel engine, rolling stock, caboose or any other equipment that was used by the Chessie System Railroads or its predecessors.
- To promote research and better understanding of the Chessie System Railroads among members of the corporation, model railway equipment manufacturers, publishers, and the general public.
- To promote and encourage the exchange of information and materials relating to the Chessie System Railroads among the members.
- To engage in other activities related to educating the public concerning the Chessie System Railroads and its predecessors.
SECTION 2. IRC SECTION 501(C)(3) PURPOSES
This corporation is organized exclusively for one or more of the purposes as specified in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
